Story Makers: People Like Me

AFTER the huge success of the last two projects, Tameside Libraries are pleased to announce that Story Makers is back for a third time.

These are weekly storytelling sessions for pre-school children which fit in with the Tameside Loves Reading campaign. This time the theme is “people like me” focusing on the many groups that make up our community.

Sessions start on Monday, September 16, and no booking is necessary. They take place at:

Families who attend will have the opportunity to work with award-winning writer Caryl Hart and illustrator Andy Rowland to create a children’s picture book. They will also receive a free copy.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning, said: “I’m delighted that the community safety partnership is giving us the opportunity to build on the success of the first two Story Makers projects, and reach out to even more families with young children.

“I’m an ardent believer in the power of reading, and I can’t think of a better way to get toddlers interested in books than this wonderful project which lets families create a picture book while their children learn about all the different people who make up the community in Tameside.”

Cllr Allison Gwynne, Tameside Council’s executive member with responsibility for Tameside Community Safety Partnership, which is funding the programme, added: “I’m very pleased to be able to help this scheme which does so much to instil an interest in reading among children.

“The first two projects were great successes and I’m sure this third one will be even better.”
