Fun Palaces is Back Again

Date Released - 03/10/2019

FUN Palaces 2019 does exactly what it says on the tin. The international event which takes place on Saturday, October 5, is all about having fun and getting involved.

Thanks to Tameside Libraries there will be lots of free, family-friendly activities across the borough (10.30am to 2.30pm).

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for culture, said: “I’m a huge believer in the power of culture to bring out the best in us. Fun Palaces has my full support because it puts culture at the heart of community and community at the heart of culture. That can only be a good thing.

“Fun Palaces creates events that bring together arts, science, craft, tech, digital, heritage and sports activities – but above all people – to work, create and have fun together, and in doing so connect our communities.”

Portland Basin Museum, Ashton, will be getting into a spin (11am to 3pm) as it celebrates arts, crafts and science. Come and make your own whirling twirling spinner toy.

At Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre, Cotton Street, Ashton, you can find out about the Black Knight and hunt for Robin Hood’s outlaws. If you’re feeling crafty why not create miniature items fit for a doll’s house? (11am to 2.30pm).

Have a go at chess at Ashton Library. Members of Ashton Bridge Club will be demonstrating the game and offering an opportunity to play. Imagination Gaming will supplying lots of board games for people of all ages to try (10.30am to 2.30pm).

Or you could immerse yourself in drama with Droylsden Little Theatre who will be running drop-in activities at Droylsden Library (10.30am to 2.30pm). There will also be some short performances at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

At Dukinfield Library, Tameside Music Service will be running a drop-in session offering the opportunity to try a variety of instruments. Maybe you’ll discover a hidden talent and create some music with the experts (10am to noon).

Fancy getting crafty with the kids? Then come and help us build a giant cardboard castle with the help of Oldham Play Action Group at Stalybridge Library and have a go at decorating your own tote bag. Take a wander upstairs to the gallery and create a flying piece of art (11am to 2pm).
