Safeguarding Charter Mark to launch

Date Released - 14/11/2019

RESIDENTS will soon be able to easily recognise charities and groups in Tameside committed to safeguarding, thanks to a new locally-recognised charter mark.

The Safeguarding Charter Mark will be jointly launched by Tameside Adult Safeguarding Partnership Board and Action Together at an event at Denton Festival Hall on Monday 18 November, from 2pm to 4pm. This will be the recognition for organisations achieving Action Together’s Quality in Action (QiA) Award.

This is being launched during the Tameside Council-backed National Adult Safeguarding Awareness Week of Action (18-22 November), where there will be events held across Tameside and also Greater Manchester.

In Tameside these events will include opportunity for staff to be involved in a session to increase awareness of self-neglect and hoarding on Wednesday 20 November.

There will also be a music theatre performance of Rats in the Sofa will taking place on Thursday 21 November in Guide Bridge. This piece has been created by Made by Mortals to raise awareness of safeguarding issues affecting vulnerable people.

The QiA award is the local quality mark voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) groups and organisations working across Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside.

As this award is only for VCFSE groups, any businesses that would like to achieve the safeguarding Charter Mark should contact Tameside Council directly.

Tameside charity, the Together Centre at Loxley House has recently achieved the Quality in Action Award.

Working with development officers from Action Together staff received advice and guidance on areas including governance, safeguarding, safer recruitment and staffing, health and safety and equal opportunities.

Cllr Eleanor Wills, Tameside Council executive member for Adult Social Care and Population Health, said: “The Quality in Action Award publicly demonstrates a group’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement. By partnering with Action Together we are helping to ensure that as many groups as possible are aware of our Safeguarding Charter Mark and can find out about the accreditation process.”

Dawson Lane, chair of trustees for the Together Centre at Loxley House, said: “The Quality in Action Award allows us to demonstrate to our stakeholders that we’re delivering fantastic activities and services. We’re very proud that our centre has received this accreditation as we’re striving to be a valuable part of the local community and provide the best possible service to residents.
