Hattersley Big Garden Projects Open Day Invites New Volunteers

Date Released - 06/05/2022

RETIRED and semi-retired residents, as well as local people who have free time and want to find out more about local community activities, are invited to the Hattersley Projects Open Day on Wednesday 11 May from 11am-2pm at Hattersley Gardens.

The open day, organised by Population Health at Tameside Council, Age Friendly Tameside and the dedicated volunteers at the projects, is an opportunity for visitors to find out more about Hattersley Projects and the volunteer opportunities available in community activities.

There are a variety of different opportunities available in a number of activities, including gardening, growing food, cooking, art and woodwork in projects designed to boost mental and physical wellbeing.

Hattersley Projects were set up in 2019 to support local communities through education, mental health and social wellbeing. They offer a variety of volunteering opportunities as well as work placements and AQA classes in skills such as woodwork and horticulture.

The event will feature tours of the grounds and talks on the volunteer opportunities available with cooking demonstrations and food provided by Chef Iain Thomas from The Alan Hotel restaurant in Manchester.

It will be a fantastic opportunity for residents to get involved with their local community and enjoy good food and good company from the friendly team of volunteers at Hattersley Projects.

Dez, the chairman at Hattersley Community Gardens said: “Come and join the family, we’re all here for you”.
