Additional Funding for Scheme that Helps Residents Find Work

THE fantastic Tameside in Work support service which helps local residents in Tameside progress to better employment with support and training has been granted further funding to enable the team to continue supporting local residents.

Commissioned by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to gather further evidence on what works to support individuals to progress, the Tameside In-Work Progression Service has now been running for 12 months and has successfully supported over 150 residents who wanted support to progress in work and increase their earnings.

The scheme is open to local residents, who are already in employment, on low pay or self-employed, to participate on a voluntary basis and receive support tailored to their needs.

This includes training and upskilling in areas like Digital IT, Maths and English. They receive one to one mentoring and support to help them with the confidence to meet career aspirations, personal development goals or improve their work life balance in their current employment or in seeking a new role.

Cllr David Sweeton, Tameside Council Executive Member (Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment) said;

"It’s fantastic news that the Tameside in Work scheme has been so successful that we have received a second year of grant funding which will allow us to expand our team and build on the support given so far. We can now continue to help even more residents increase their earnings, gain skills, and improve their confidence, and lives to support their career aspirations. It’s brilliant to see the results and outcome that one-to-one support from the team can bring”

Minister for Employment, Guy Opperman MP added:

“In Work Progression is about helping people raise their incomes, and ultimately becoming financially secure.

“We want to help people across the country to climb the career ladder and progress, and the Tameside In Work Progression Service does just that.

“Through the joint support of the local authority and Jobcentres, this additional funding will ensure we’re helping even more people to take control of their career path and future.”
