Hotspots targeted in Our Streets day of action in Hyde

THE Our Streets Campaign focused on Hyde town centre this week, as councillors and officers came together for another productive waste day of action to target fly tipping and littering.

The team set out to work together and make a difference in fly tipping hotspot areas including Market Street, Nelson Street, Syddall Street, Henry Street and Norfolk Street.

Seven Fixed Penalty Notices were issued and 10 contaminated bins were removed from the street.  The team also visited businesses to check waste management processes.

Tameside Council Executive Member responsible for Environmental Services Cllr Denise Ward, was joined by ward councillors Cllr Chadwick, Cllr Alam, Cllr Roderick, Cllr Robinson, Cllr Ward, Cllr Bowden and Cllr Colbourne and said “Having a joined up approach between the local community, residents and businesses is really paying off. Action being taken in a number of our towns has been really effective in helping reduce flytipping and reducing hotspots. It also means we can help educate both businesses and residents on the small changes they can make to support a cleaner and safer community. It’s really showing the pride that people have in their local area and the fantastic results that working together helps achieve.”

“There are lots of ways resident can get involved from taking the #tamesidelitterpledge to organising a litter pick in their area or just reporting flytipping so Council officers can take direct action.”
