Armed Forces Day Back on Parade for 2023

ARMED Forces Day is marching back to Denton on Saturday, June 24, for Tameside’s annual salute to the borough’s service personnel past, present and future.

Proceedings start in the morning when the new Civic Mayor, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, hosts a veterans’ lunch where she and other dignitaries will offer personal thanks to those who have served in the forces.

From 1 to 4pm, the usual festival of fun and entertainment will take place around the bandstand in Victoria Park.

As well as live music from the Dave Egerton Band and singer Jo Farrow, there will be displays from Tameside cadet units and a host of other activities.

Test your strength on the climbing wall, have a try at inflatable archery and axe throwing, or find out about military history and your family’s armed forces connections.

A wide range of organisations offering information and activities will also be present alongside services supporting current and former armed forces personnel.

Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon from Victoria Park Community Centre.

Cllr Vincent Ricci, Tameside Council’s armed forces champion, said: “As a borough, we have a long and close relationship with the services and I hope lots of people will visit Victoria Park and enjoy the many activities on offer as well as show their support to our armed forces community.
