Get Creative with a Summer of Cultural Crafts

TAMESIDE'S Make, Do and Play summer programme provides the perfect opportunity for a few moments of calm and creativity for busy young minds looking for entertainment during the school holidays.

The programme of activities taking place at Portland Basin Museum will provide plenty of opportunities for families to let their creative side flow. Every week on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s there will be a range of themed activities on offer designed to both inspire and educate all ages on locally themed topics.

What better way to learn about more about Tameside canals and narrowboats than to make one of your own and explore more about what makes them work and their history along local canals and waterways.

Portland Basin Museum itself holds a wealth of knowledge about local history and heritage and for those who have never been it can inspire and unfold exhibitions full of wonder and families can drop in and find lots more about the amazing local attraction on their doorstep.

There’s something for nature lovers too, whether it’s making a pair of Rocking Birds or a kite that can fly and look like an eagle.  Families can also join in and create their own sketchbooks, postcards and even design their own coat of arms bringing ideas to spark the imagination and help them bring the vision to life.

Cllr Sangita Patel Tameside Council’s Assistant Executive Member for Culture, Heritage and Digital Inclusivity, said: “The Make, Do and Play session are designed so that families can roll up their sleeves and join in some great activities which will ignite a creative spark in all ages and provide the perfect opportunity find out more about Tameside and the fabulous Portland Basin Museum. The activities are free and everyone is welcome to drop in and take part in the fun.”

Make, Do and Play is organised by Tameside Cultural Services, part of Tameside Council.
