Free Lantern Workshops will Help you Shine at the Christmas Parade

Date Released - 07/11/2023

IF you want to make sure you shine at the Tameside Christmas Lantern Parade on Saturday, November 18, there is no better way to do it than by attending a lantern-making workshop.

Four have been organised, which started with Friday on the Square in Ashton, on November 3.

There are two at Phantasmagoria, Clarence Arcade, Stamford Street: Saturday, November 11 (1 to 3.30pm), and Wednesday, November 15 (4.30 to 7pm); and The Vale, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley, will be hosting one on Saturday, November 11 (10am to 1pm).

All of them are free drop-in sessions with no need to book in advance.

Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for culture, heritage and digital inclusivity, Cllr Sangita Patel, said: “As ever, community will be at the heart of our parade. We want as many people as possible, of all ages, to make a lantern and bring it on the night so that we create a spectacular procession through the streets, bursting with light, life, and civic pride.

“The workshops are friendly and easy-going. They not only supply all necessary materials but are led by a professional artist. They are a great chance to let your creativity flow so that we have a truly magical event and a night to remember.”

The parade, which takes place in Ashton town centre, has been organised by Tameside Arts and Events in partnership with Casaba Carnival Arts, Global Grooves Manchester, and The Vale.
