Bag a bargain bike for Christmas at pre-loved bicycle sale

FAMILIES can bag a festive bargain at a Christmas pre-loved bike sale in Tameside.

And there will be lots of free goodies and the chance to win some fantastic prizes at the event at Clarendon Square Shopping Centre, Hyde, on Saturday 25 November from 10am to 4pm.

Tameside Council has teamed up with Manchester Bike Kitchen to organise the event that gives residents the opportunity to buy an affordable yet amazing present for a loved one.

There will be something for everyone with a selection of pre-loved bikes and new bikes for sale, for both children and adults.

Every customer who makes a purchase on the day will be entered into a Christmas lucky dip with bicycle related prizes up for grabs, including lights, safety equipment and vouchers.

Transport and sustainability firm Mosodi will attend to promote sustainable and active travel and will be handing out free goodies. BikeRegister security marking will also be carried out if anyone wants to bring their bike along.

Residents who buy a bike as a Christmas gift can store their purchase at Manchester Bike Kitchen and collect nearer to Christmas if they wish.

The event supports Tameside Council’s Think Green campaign, which aims to inspire residents and businesses to join the journey to a cleaner and greener Tameside. It is also part of the Council’s health and wellbeing objectives to help people be healthier and more active around the borough.

Manchester Bike Kitchen, a not-for-profit community interest company, welcome bicycle donations, which they repair and service to put them to good use and save them from going to landfill. Their store at Clarendon Square Shopping Centre is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10am-4pm hosting pre-loved and new bike sales and cycle repairs, giving families the opportunity to buy fully-serviced bikes at affordable prices – particularly welcome during the cost-of-living crisis.

Cllr Eleanor Wills, Tameside Council’s executive member for population health and wellbeing, said: “Cost-of-living rises have put families under increasing strain, so it’s lovely to think that children will be waking up on Christmas Day to receive a good-quality bike that their parents haven’t had to break their budgets to afford.

“And cycling is a great way to keep fit and healthy with every journey taken by bike rather than a vehicle helping to reduce pollution.”

Councillor Jan Jackson, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Planning, Transport and Connectivity, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to organise this fantastic event that will give families the chance to buy an affordable bike in plenty of time before Christmas.

“Cycling is a greener, more sustainable travel option and we have lots of wonderful cycling and walking routes in Tameside that residents can enjoy.”
