OVER 1000 children and young people received a gift on Christmas Day thanks to generous donations to Tameside Toy Appeal 2023.
The appeal, led by Action Together working in partnership with Tameside Council Children’s Centres, Tameside Radio and Tameside Reporter, was a huge success with thousands of toys and gifts donated to the appeal by local residents, businesses, work teams, schools, churches, community groups and charities. Action Together's Just Giving page also received £2,768 to go towards gifts.
There were even some festive fundraisers, who collectively raised over £5,000, which was then spent on buying gifts for Tameside children and young people in need.
Across the borough, children themselves got involved and independently organised their own fundraising project or collections within their schools. To read more about individuals click here.
Additionally, the Appeal received large amounts of support from local businesses and as a result, 2023 saw the most business supporters than any other year.
Council staff got fully involved with teams making donations and hosting collecting points in their workplaces as well as in local libraries.
Tameside Council Executive Leader, Cllr Gerald Cooney said: “A massive thank you to everyone who donated or took the time to fundraise or volunteer to help support the Tameside Toy Appeal. It is heart-warming to see the Tameside community come together and help those facing hardship, so that everyone experienced a magical Christmas.
“In doing so, all children and young people woke up on Christmas Day morning to presents under their tree after a visit from Father Christmas.”
