Enforcement day of action in Hyde identifies flytipping offenders

ENFORCEMENT action is being taken in relation to 18 cases of flytipping investigated during an Our Streets day of action in Hyde.

Tameside Council officers were joined by local councillors in the initiative, held on 24 January, to clear and investigate flytipping and litter in Hyde town centre and surrounding streets.

Dumped waste was found on eight streets, including Port St, Henry St, Market St, Edna St, Great Norbury St.

There were 18 cases of fly tipping where officers were able to trace the waste back to the offenders and will be taking appropriate enforcement action.

They will also be taking follow up action regarding businesses that are not taking appropriate measures to control their waste and are failing in their duty of care.

This was just one of numerous Our Streets days of action that have taken place in Tameside and there will be more to follow.

The days of action highlight the work that takes place every day to clear and investigate flytipping and litter. Over 170 fines for waste related offences were issued in the borough in 2023.

Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member Cllr Vincent Ricci, who is responsible for enforcement and attended the day, said: “It’s always a great result when we’re able to trace waste back to those responsible for dumping it and hold them accountable for their actions. Flytipping is completely inexcusable and disrespectful to the local community and environment. We will always take enforcement action against offenders where we find evidence.”
