THIS February is Heart Month and to support this Be Well Tameside are offering health and wellbeing advice to those who live, work, volunteer or have a GP in the borough.
The service offers range of health and wellbeing support and advice on a range of day-to-day lifestyle issues areas such as stopping smoking, weight management and support around food, nutrition and healthy eating, increasing physical activity, reducing salt, sugar and caffeine, oral health and alcohol awareness.
Be Well Tameside offer support in a various ways such as, one to one appointments, regular contact to help clients achieve their goals and practical tips.
They also provide free NHS health checks to those who are between 40 and 74, not had a health check in the last five years, and are not on any medication for blood pressure, heart problems or cholesterol.
The check itself takes roughly 30 minutes. During the check you will be weighed and measured, asked to answer questions around your lifestyle, have a blood pressure test, a finger prick test for cholesterol, and a diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk score.
Having a Health Check ensures that you are aware of your risk of cardiovascular disease. If you are at high risk, there are further steps you can then take, with support, to reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Be Well Tameside offer appointments at a variety of locations, including Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Droylsden and more. Appointments for a free NHS health check need to be booked and are available throughout the day, in the evenings, and even at weekends.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing Councillor Eleanor Wills said: “We are encouraging those who are eligible to access Be Well Tameside’s service to make the most of it and consider your own health and wellbeing where you can.
“By having such an accessible and supportive service in the borough to will provide those who live, work, volunteer or have a GP in Tameside with the opportunity to take the preventive and proactive steps necessary.”
