Workshop Shows Women Mean Business

LOCAL women who have made their mark in male-dominated sectors will be recounting the secret of their success at a special Tameside Libraries event to mark International Women’s Day.

“Women Mean Business (Brunch and Learn)” – which will be opened by the Civic Mayor, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, a former assistant police and crime commissioner for Bedfordshire – takes place in the Tameside College restaurant at Tameside One, Ashton, between 10am and 1pm on Friday, March 8.

The speakers will be Emma Varnam, Tameside Council’s assistant director — operations and neighbourhoods, place; Sarah Frankland, validation and regulatory affairs manager at Bouygues E&S Contracting UK; Sarah Chapman, customer operations partner at Red Rock Communications and Patrice Johnson, managing director of Finding My Way CIC.

Cllr Sangita Patel, Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for heritage, culture and digital inclusivity, said: “ ‘Women Mean Business’ is an event designed to build on the success we enjoyed with the previous two International Women’s Day workshops.

“Even now, as we approach the second quarter of the 21st century, women continue to face challenges in the workplace. However, as the line-up of guests will demonstrate, they can and do rise to the top.

“Women are just as capable as men of running a company, an authority or a major concern. With the right attitude they can realise their ambitions as our guests will show.

“I would like to thank Tameside Libraries, Tameside Employment and Skills, Tameside College, the Growth Company and Bromley’s Solicitors for their help in staging the event.”

The workshop will feature a brunch prepared by Tameside College students who will join in to share some of their aspirations. There will also be an opportunity for networking plus the chance to find out about support available in Tameside for potential entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs and larger businesses.

Tameside Libraries is part of Build a Business in GM Libraries, a Greater Manchester project which is part funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and managed by Manchester City Council. For more information go to: www.buildabusinessgm.org.
