Community Grants Success for East Tameside

EIGHT groups shared £12,652 in funding when Tameside Community Safety held their east neighbourhood Resilient Communities Tameside event at Reach Church, Millbrook, for organisations in Dukinfield, Stalybridge and Mossley.

Grant decisions were made by the 60 residents present, who listened to each group’s presentation and then voted to select which should be successful.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Tafheen Sharif, attended along with the council’s executive member for towns and communities, Cllr Vimal Choksi.

To qualify for funding, projects had to be based around one of four themes: preventing crime and reducing fear of crime, improving environmental resilience and challenges, reducing anti-social behaviour and empowering communities.

The winners were: Andrew Street Pond Association – Andrew Street pond, Mossley; Brunswick Dam Conservation Group, Mossley – Brunswick Dam; Holy Trinity Church, Stalybridge – church garden; Live Great Adventures – Men’s Minds Matter; Samson’s Boxing Gym – self-defence boxing training; 2nd Dukinfield Scouts – rejuvenation of the old dell; the Power of Resilience – Community Space 6, Ambleside, Stalybridge; the Together Centre – Me Being Me.

Cllr Choksi said “It really was a very successful evening with an extremely positive atmosphere. It was good to see the amazing amount of networking that took place as people got to know each other and swapped ideas.

“All the groups that received money were most appreciative. I look forward to seeing how it is used to fund and develop new projects.”

The event was supported by Life Line Community Ambulance and First Aid who offered their services free of charge.
