Ashton Mayoral Development Zone (AMDZ) open for developer opportunities

Date Released - 19/06/2024

The Ashton Mayoral Development Zone (AMDZ) was officially launched by Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, last month at UKREiiF in Leeds.

The AMDZ offers an ambitious plan for the St Petersfield Development that will be progressed through the Pagabo Framework. Developers will shortly be invited to participate in the next stage of development at St Petersfield.

The zone which encompasses Ashton Moss, St Petersfield and Ashton town centre sits in the Eastern Growth Cluster - one of six growth locations across Greater Manchester. It aims to deliver more than 3,000 high quality jobs, c.1,500 mixed tenure homes and c.150,000 square metres of employment space, supporting the transformation of the region.

The area is full of potential, in a prime location, with a well-established transport system and assets that make it accessible and convenient for people to reach quality employment.

Set in a well-connected place with beautiful surroundings that support the health and wellbeing of the population. The AMDZ will create a thriving, highly sustainable eco-system, supported by great education and healthcare facilities, a revitalised town centre, and high-quality homes for all. Making it a fantastic place to live, work and learn.

Tameside Council Executive Cabinet have this week approved the Delivery Strategy and Development Prospectus alongside acceptance of £128,000 of Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Homes England Funding to support work on St Peterfield.

Councillor Jack Naylor, Executive Member for Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment said, “We have exciting and ambitions for the Ashton Growth Corridor. Work is already underway, and we have been focusing on creating further opportunities to enable us to seek developer partners who can help us make our vision a reality. The Mayoral Development Zone is ideally placed to help unlock further investment and support the development of new homes and employment space, creating jobs and opportunities that benefit people across Tameside and beyond.”
