Join the Big Conversation on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Date Released - 01/08/2024

Families in Tameside are invited to join the Big Conversation in August to share their thoughts on special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) services for children and young people aged 0-25-years-old in Tameside.

Four consultations events are being held in collaboration with Tameside Council and local organisations that provide advice and support groups for parents and carers of young people with SEND. The sessions aim to get views on how to work better together to benefit local families and communities.

Taking place at the four main family hubs, the consultation events will also include early year’s activities to keep children entertained.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Teresa Smith, said: “Regularly hearing the views and experiences of parents and carers of young people with SEND is crucial to guarantee Tameside is offering the right mix of support in an accessible way. It’s also important to reach those that might not be aware of the free support available across the borough, so gaining feedback about services at these consultation events is vital.”

The sessions are on a drop-in basis and all families who attend will go into a prize draw to win a £20 Amazon voucher. Families can also pick up a children’s passport from any family hub to collect stamps when they attend a consultation session, Listening Café, or a Grow activity. When children get four stamps or more they will receive a goody bag.

The sessions take place on the following dates at one of Tameside’s family hubs:

Monday 5 August, 9.30am-11am

North Family Hub, Trafalgar Square, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL7 0LL

Tuesday 13 August, 1pm-2.30pm

South Family Hub, Hyde Old Road, Flowery Field, Hyde, SK14 4SQ

Thursday 22 August, 1pm-2.30pm

East Family Hub, School Crescent, Ridge Hill, Stalybridge, SK15 1EA

Wednesday 28 August, 9.30am-11am

West Family Hub, Greenside Lane, Droylsden, M43 7RA

For those unable to attend any of the consultations in person, feedback can be given in this online survey.
