Drop-in Information Sessions for Draft Droylsden Masterplan

Date Released - 29/08/2024

DROP-IN information sessions have been arranged to help people find out more about the draft Droylsden Masterplan and have their say.

The draft plan – which outlines the visions and proposals for the future of Droylsden town centre – has been developed by Tameside Council working with a consultant team led by OPEN (Optimised Environments), using insights and feedback gained from a fact-finding exercise carried out in February of this year.

A formal consultation inviting residents, business and stakeholders to have their say on the draft masterplan will run from Friday 6 September until 11 October. This will enable the team to gain public views on the emerging proposals to ensure they are in line with both community and key stakeholder aspirations.

Drop-in information sessions to discuss the proposals in the draft masterplan with members of the consultant team and council officers are taking place on Friday 6 September from 9am to 7pm and Saturday 7 from 9am to 4.30pm at Droylsden Library. The proposals will also be displayed in the library windows with a suggestion box available for people to give their thoughts.

The masterplan celebrates the local canals and historic assets and aims to reconnect and expand community spaces, and make streets safer by improving the town centre offer in line with the views of residents and people who use the town. It will also look at how Droylsden could capitalise on investment taking place in East Manchester around the Etihad and Co-op Arena developments.

The draft masterplan, funded by £100,000 from Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Evergreen fund, outlines short, medium, and long-term goals for the wider town centre. It spans over 10 to 15 years enabling the council to seek further investment and funding options to be able to implement the plan and then deliver the vision for a sustainable future for Droylsden.

Executive Member for Towns and Communities Cllr Vimal Choksi said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Droylsden and we really want the views of both residents and businesses to help shape the final vision and ensure we are working together to make Droylsden town centre fit for the future. The masterplan, and proposals within it, are the key to enabling us to seek further funding to help ensure the town centre meets the needs of current and future residents.

“This is a crucial step in tackling key issues and making Droylsden town centre a place everyone can be proud of. It’s important that everyone takes this opportunity to have their say so that their views are included.”
