A new initiative is set to bring local residents together with community groups and organisations to promote safety, provide valuable support, and encourage active engagement.
Hyde Clarendon Shopping Centre will host the Community Showcase Network event on Thursday, 19 September, from 10am to 1pm.
The event is organised by Tameside Council’s Community Safety team.
The Community Showcase Network will feature a variety of community groups and organisations, including groups providing advice and support on a range of topics such as mental health, cost of living, prostate cancer support, and financial wellbeing. One such group, the England Illegal Money Lending Team, will have someone dressed as "Sid the Shark" to raise awareness about loan sharks.
The event will centre around the Community Safety Stand, where residents can learn more about staying safe. A “Chatter Bench” will also be set up to encourage conversations. Volunteers will engage with anyone who sits on the bench, recognising that this may be the only social interaction some people have that day or even longer.
Cash Box Credit Union is offering a £25 bonus to any new customers who sign up at the Community Showcase Network, funded by the Illegal Money Lending Team.
The Merry Crew, a group of men aged 44 to 84 who believe dance is for everyone regardless of age, will also perform.
Vimal Choksi, Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns and Communities, said: “The Community Showcase Network is a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect with local groups and services. I encourage everyone to come along, get involved, and see what’s on offer.”
