Statement on behalf of Tameside Council Senior Leadership Team: public and internal to all staff

Date Released - 25/10/2024

As a Senior Leadership Team, we’d like to formally welcome Councillor Eleanor Wills into her role as Executive Leader of Tameside Council. We look forward to working together over the coming weeks and months to deliver the substantial and sustainable improvements needed, in particular in our Children’s Services.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to welcome the full Executive Cabinet - both those newly in post and those who are continuing in their roles.

We have already started the process to appoint an Interim Chief Executive, and now Councillor Wills is in post as Executive Leader and her Cabinet is in place, we will call a meeting of the Appointments Panel. This panel is made up of the Executive Cabinet members and three members of the Opposition Party.  They will consider the outcome of the Council’s search for an Interim Chief Executive, which includes an offer of help from Greater Manchester Combined Authority to second Oldham’s Chief Executive whilst the Council sources a permanent appointment.

We're grateful to colleagues across Greater Manchester for their support under our mutual support arrangements.  It is important to be clear that any appointment here in Tameside is subject to our decision-making process at a Full Council meeting which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 29 October 2024.

It is necessary to follow the proper process - we are putting in place a solid foundation that will stand us in good stead moving forward.  As we go through this change to the leadership of the organisation, we would also like to thank our staff again for their hard work and dedication in continuing to deliver services for people in Tameside.
