Tameside Council celebrate being a Fostering Friendly Employer

Tameside Council was highlighted at a Greater Manchester event celebrating Fostering Friendly employers.

Foster for Greater Manchester hosted an event at the Manchester Art Gallery to celebrate Greater Manchester becoming the first Fostering Friendly city-region, with all 10 local authorities signed up.

Tameside Council signed the pledge to support all of their employees who are foster carers or kinship carers in being the difference to the lives of local children and young people, by helping staff provide the best possible care for a child or young person.

By being a Fostering Friendly employer Tameside Council have a HR policy in place, which covers flexible working and paid time off for training and settling a new child or young person into their home.

Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are another organisation in the borough who have signed up to being a Fostering Friendly employer.

Tameside Council are always looking for more residents to become local foster carers to provide a normal, everyday family life for vulnerable children. For more details on fostering in Tameside click here.

Businesses and organisations are being encouraged to join The Fostering Network’s programme to become Fostering Friendly. Employers will receive support and guidance in achieving this status.

The Fostering Network are the UK’s leading fostering charity, who are the essential network for fostering and bring together everyone who is involved in the lives of fostered children.

By becoming a Fostering Friendly employer, it strengthens a business as your status will be celebrated and published by The Fostering Network, make the workplace friendlier, as well as The Fostering Network present a Fostering Friendly employer with a prestigious Fostering Excellence Award.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Children’s and Families, Cllr Teresa Smith said: “We are always encouraging local residents to become foster carers to offer a safe and loving home for local children in care.

But importantly, we need the infrastructure to be in place so that our foster carers feel the support from their employers in order for them to provide the highest standard of care. If you’re a business that want to join us in being the difference, please do not hesitate to get in touch.”
