An application scheme into which Tameside residents can apply for help with the costs of food and energy is set to open, Monday 9 December at 9am.
Funding for the scheme comes as part of the council’s plans to deliver a total of £2.2million worth of support to residents who are struggling with the cost of living, particularly over the Winter months.
A limited, fixed fund of £300,000 will be available until 31st March 2025, or when funds are exhausted. Successful applicants will receive one-off support payments of up to £100 for single households and up to £200 for couples and households with children.
The scheme is open to Tameside residents who are:
Pensioners not in receipt of any of the above benefits but who are struggling with food and fuel costs should contact the council’s welfare rights advice line (0800 074 9985 Monday and Wednesday 9.30am – 12.30pm). A benefit check will be undertaken and eligibility for Household Support Fund will be assessed.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Finance and Resources, Cllr Jack Naylor, said: “This is a fund for those in the greatest need and I would strongly encourage residents who are eligible to apply. While this is a limited fund with a high demand, I’m so pleased that we’ll be able to support around 2,000 residents with this open application scheme as part of our wider plans for the Household Support Fund.
“Our teams will be processing applications as quickly as possible to make sure payments reach those most in need.
“If you are struggling, my message is simple, please do get in touch with us, we are here to help however we can.”
