Residents are being invited to a community advice stall to increase awareness of online scams for Safer Internet Day.
Tameside Council Community Safety team are holding a community advice stall with partners Greater Manchester Police Fraud Prevention and local Chairty PC Digital Refurb for Safer Internet Day.
Residents can come along to the free stall on 11 February 2025,10am – 12:30 pm to Stalybridge Banking Hub, Unit 1/2 Summer Quay, Armentieres Square, Stalybridge SK15 2BR.
Staybridge Banking Hub has a different bank representatives on each day who can help with any of their customers who have an account with them on the day. For this advice stall, the event will have support representatives from Santander. They can provide assistance with sorting account details, changing emails and other personal banking issues. Advice will also be provided from the Police Fraud Team providing an insight on common scams and safeguarding tips for securing personal information to help avoid being a victim to online scams.
PC Refurb, who offer digital training in the community, help to support residents who are not familiar with the digital realm. Providing information on setting up passwords, shopping online, ensuring personal details are safe. For more information on PC Refurb, visit https://pcrefurb.org.uk/.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns Transport and Connectivity Cllr Stephen Homer said: “With fraudsters becoming increasingly advanced, we want to provide residents with the most useful information to help prevent being a victim of online scams.
“I would encourage people to visit the stall where they can talk to our teams and the organisations, ask questions and get tips for staying safe online.”
