Former Astoria Bingo Hall, Hyde – Emergency Demolition of Building

Following the fire at the former Astoria Bingo Hall on Monday evening (24 February), Tameside Building Control has declared the remains of the building as dangerous and requiring urgent demolition under Section 78 of the Building Act 1984.
Contractors on behalf of the Council will commence demolition works from 8am (27 February) which will last for a number of days.
The site will be fenced off to ensure public safety during this period. Hyde Bus Station and the adjacent taxi rank will also remain closed during this period including the public footbridge over the M67.
The inside lane of the west bound carriageway of the M67 adjacent to the site will be closed during the works on a precautionary basis.
Demolition works are expected to be completed by next week.
