SOCIAL Work teams are being celebrated across Adults and Children’s services to show appreciation for the difference they make to people’s lives in Tameside.
Social Work England describes someone who works in social work as ‘someone who listens and supports people, whilst empowering them to improve their lives. They also protect people from harm when necessary.’
Tameside Council’s celebrations included an event on World Social Work Day (18 March), which was during World Social Work Week (17 – 21 March 2025), this gave social care staff a chance to get together and look back on all of the brilliant work they had achieved in the past year.
This awareness week takes place annually, with this year’s theme being ‘Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing’, which emphasises the importance of caring and respecting across generations to build strong societies, sustain the environment, and share wisdom for a better future.
To highlight how Tameside Council’s social work teams support residents, staff in social care took the time to feature in a video where they talked about how they enjoy being the difference in Tameside, and what makes their job rewarding. Throughout the week these videos and other appreciation posts will be shared on Tameside Council’s social media channels including, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
One of the appreciation posts focuses on Jacob, a Senior Social Worker in Children’s Services at Tameside Council. Jacob was nominated by his team as an ‘Amazing Social Worker’ and was recognised by the British Association of Social Workers for his selfless dedication to supporting local families.
Members of Jacob’s team said he is an ‘astonishingly excellent Social Worker’ as he has received a number of compliments relating to his practice. One of these being, “Jacob is always willing to support his team and the wider service and goes above and beyond every single day.”
For those interested in starting a career in Social Work, Tameside Council offer support through their Social Work Academy, which provides the knowledge and skills needed for social workers wishing to progress into leadership.
Tameside Council also offer an Assessed and Supported Year in Employment programme (ASYE) for Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW) in Children’s Services.
