IF your children are looking for something to do over Easter, they’ll love the sound of what Tameside Libraries have lined up.
“Sound” is the theme for their next holiday programme and there are two sets of free, drop-in activities: “Soundhoppers” and “Make some Noise”.
“Make some Noise”, where children of all ages are welcome, offers hour-long craft sessions focused on sound. They take place on 10 April (2pm) at Denton Library, 11 April (10.30am) at Mossley Library, 14 April (10.30am) at Hyde Library and 16 April (2pm) at Stalybridge Library.
“Soundhoppers” is a deep listening and sound exploration workshop where five to 11-year-olds can find new ways of making sound through sonic workshops and attentive listening. Four 90-minute sessions have been organised: Monday 7 April (1pm) at Dukinfield Library, 9 April (2pm) at Ashton Library, 12 April (10.30am) at Droylsden Library and 17 April (2pm) at Hattersley Library.
Dukinfield Library also hosts a free Stick Man drop-in workshop on Tuesday, April 8, based on the popular books and BBC animations. Craft your own Stick Man and then take him to explore the fun trail to Dukinfield Park with activities along the way.
If you prefer things to be a little more traditional, on Wednesday 16 April you can visit Portland Basin to create an eggtastic Easter bonnet or hat while you hop around the museum. It’s another free drop-in family activity and takes place from 11am to 3pm.
And as always in the school holidays, Portland Basin will be hosting Make, Do and Play sessions every Tuesday and Thursday.
The schedule is: Tuesday, 8 April: Fluffy Lambs; Thursday, 10 April: Pom-pom Peapods;
Tuesday, 15 April: Spring Pop-up Garden and Thursday, 17 April: Wax-resist Egg Pictures.
Activities are 11am to 3pm and there’s a charge of £1.35 per child.
Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning and culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley, said: “There certainly is a lot to make a noise about in terms of our Easter holiday activities.
“Our museums, arts and libraries teams have once again our excelled themselves in producing a varied, highly entertaining and mostly free programme for the whole family.”
