Date Released - 06/06/2025

A stellar weekend of comedy is coming to Stalybridge on 19–20 July, as part of an exciting new series of pilot events that will light up and animate the Civic Hall over the next year.

The newly refurbished hall will host a two-day comedy extravaganza, featuring some of the UK’s most celebrated comedians.

The weekend kicks off on Saturday 19 July with Guffaw! a family-friendly daytime event packed with laughter for all ages. Audiences can expect high-energy performances from top children’s entertainers including Martin Mor, Ada Campe, and Steve Royal.

As evening falls, the spotlight turns to a headline comedy showcase featuring three of the biggest names on the UK comedy circuit:

Doors open at 7:30pm, with the show starting at 8:15pm. Tickets for the Saturday evening event are £15 and available now at www.intameside.co.uk. Please note: this event is strictly 18+.

On Sunday 20 July, the laughs continue with a lineup that promises more side-splitting entertainment. Expected acts include Gary Delaney, Josh Jones, and Nina Gilligan, with the full programme to be announced shortly.

This comedy weekend marks the start of a year-long programme of pilot events at the Civic Hall, following extensive refurbishment works including a new roof and internal upgrades. These improvements are part of the Stalybridge Capital Regeneration Programme, aimed at revitalising the town’s cultural quarter and heritage assets.

The work carried out was part of the following completion of the roof replacement, and internal upgrades to make the space a more flexible venue for markets, festivals, theatre performances, and exhibitions. This work is part of one of the three key projects in the Stalybridge Capital Regeneration Programme, focused on revitalising the town’s cultural quarter and heritage assets. A long-term plan is in progress to secure the Hall’s future as a key cultural and community hub, but the pilot events will help test the potential of the space and give residents and visitors alike a chance to experience some brilliant new cultural events.

Councillor Leanne Feeley, Councill Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture said: “This is going to be an absolutely fantastic weekend, offering the opportunity for everyone to experience something new and exciting. We are working on a really special programme of events to test the art of the possible and gain feedback from people on what they want to see and experience in Tameside. The Civic Hall is a truly magnificent space, and we want to get the offer right by testing different cultural experiences over the next year and I can’t wait to unveil the full programme which will offer something for everyone.”

More details on the event series will be officially announced in the coming weeks but will feature fun packed activities for families as well as Candlelit Concerts, Artisan Markets and so much more. Watch this space!

Tickets are on sale now for the Saturday evening now and are priced at £15 per person at www.intameside.co.uk/comedyweekender
