Fine weather, welcoming crowds and tuneful talent led to fantastically successful Whit Friday Brass Dand Contest.
A fabulous 50 bands took part in the much loved event on 13 June, with Foden’s band being named the overall winners.
Another highlight for this year was Stalybridge Celtic providing the newest contest venue, which proved popular with both spectators and bands alike.
As always Tameside Council provided support for the event, including funding the prize money for the overall contest.
Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture Cllr Leanne Feeley, who herself volunteered as a steward at one of the contests, said: “Congratulations to Foden’s Band and well done to everyone who took part – not just the many brilliant bands but also all the wonderfully dedicated volunteers without whom this event could not happen.
“The contests provide a super free event for local people and visitors to enjoy and they also showcase our towns, talent and cultural heritage. Long may this much loved tradition continue.”
