Tameside Community Grant Fund Success in the South

Date Released - 24/06/2025

SIX local community groups have had their bids for funding approved at The South Neighbourhood Tameside Communities Grant Fund event.

This annual event, held at St George’s Church in Hyde, is run by Tameside Councils Community Safety Team and works to ensure local community groups receive the support from the council.

On Thursday 12 June, the shortlisted groups of the South Wards (Godley, Newton, Werneth and Longdendale) met with the council team, Executive member for Towns, Trasport and Connectivity Cllr Stephen Homer and Werneth Cllr Shibley Alaim, to help delegate awarded funding.

Each group provided a project proposal and gave a presentation to receive votes on which should be selected.

To qualify, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: Activities that reduce harmful behaviour, improving environmental resilience and challenges, and empowering communities to transform lives.

Community groups included Menopause Your Way, Mottram Risers, Friends of St Vincents Park, Ark of Hope, Tameside Little Gems and Hattersley Big Community Garden, all of whom had fantastic projects supporting young and old across the communities of Tameside.

The successful community groups received the funding to support their projects delivery over the next 12 months.

Cllr Homer said: “This is a fantastic initiative to help support our local community groups. It was great to see the presentations of the projects and see the passion they have for bettering the community.

“The keen involvement of the community groups goes to show how beneficial the grant funds can be. We can’t wait to see the development over the next 12 months.”

Lifeline Community Ambulance supported the event, which gave its first-aid services for free.
