THE NEXT 12 months will see Tameside host a variety of spectacular events to target families across the borough.
Tameside Council’s Executive Cabinet has signed off on plans to host and support a whole host of local events taking place over the next year.
The programme, which includes long-standing favourites such as Armed Forces Day, the Lantern Parade, and monthly Street Fest events in Stalybridge, is designed to offer inclusive, accessible opportunities for residents to come together and take pride in their local area.
Over the past year, the council’s Cultural Services team has delivered or supported more than 100 events and 220 activities across the borough. These have ranged from large-scale public celebrations to smaller, community-led initiatives, many of which are made possible through the dedication of local volunteers and the support of external grant funding.
This year’s programme will also include a special commemoration of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, marking a significant moment in national and local history.
Key dates for upcoming events include:
Tameside’s museums and galleries also continue to play a key role in the borough’s cultural life, with nearly 100,000 visitors annually and Portland Basin Museum ranked among the top 10% of attractions nationally and internationally.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “We are proud to deliver a varied and vibrant events programme that reflects the diversity and spirit of our communities. These events not only provide opportunities for residents to enjoy cultural experiences but also help to build connections and foster a sense of belonging.
“We continue to work creatively within a limited budget, leveraging partnerships and funding opportunities to ensure the programme remains sustainable and impactful.”
