NINE groups were successfully selected for funding for the West Tameside Communities Grant Fund scheme.
Tameside Community Safety held their final Tameside Communities Grant Fund event on June, for the West wards, Denton, Audenshaw and Droylsden.
The event, held at the Fairfield Moravian Settlement, Droylsden, saw community groups gather and propose their pitches, in hopes to be selected for the funding.
The Civic Mayor, Cllr Shibley Alam, welcomed everyone and opened the event. With words of appreciation and expressing gratitude to all the communities who volunteer, making Tameside a better place to live.
Funding decisions were made by over 50 residents present, and several ward Councillors, who listened to each group’s presentation and then voted to decide which should be successful.
To qualify for funding, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: Activities & Interventions that reduce harmful behaviours, improving environmental resilience and challenges, and empowering communities transforming lives.
Each group who was found successful for the funding, were recognised for their commitment to bettering the community.
The winners were: Friends of Tame Valley, Tameside’s People 4 wildlife, Assheton Avenue Community Garden Group, Water Adventure Park (WAC), Little Lambs Toddlers Group, Dane Bank Green Space, Royal Mencap Society, Droylsden Youth Centre, Tameside Armed Forces Community (TASC).
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns and Communities, Cllr Stephen Homer said, “These events are a great way to showcase the incredible work being done by community groups. They also help the groups to tap into the support available from the council, to help them continue providing their services.
“It’s always an uplifting event to see the passion and impact of the local groups. Well done those selected, everyone was so deserving, it was hard to choose.”
The event was supported by Cllr Brenda Warrington, Cllr Nick Axford and Cllr Teresa Smith. Lifeline Community Ambulance who volunteered their First Aid services.
