Our Streets Day of Action leads to 11 Fixed Term Penalty Notices

Environmental Services Teams joined forces with the local community for a Day of Action to help tackle a variety of issues within St Michael’s, Ashton.

Tameside Council officers, councillors, residents and school pupils all took part in a Day of Action, which focused on visiting fly-tipping hotspots and cleaning up dumped waste and litter.

The day, held on 26 July, resulted in 11 Fixed Penalty Notices being served for fly tipping in the St Michael’s Ward.

The focus of the day was around the community litter hub at St James’s Church.

Children from St James’s Primary School joined officers on the day to litter pick and help teach them about the importance of looking after their environment.

The teams discussed fly tipping and waste concerns with residents and how to report these issues.

Attendees could also speak with the council’s Community Safety and Anti-Social Behaviour Teams for crime prevention and personal safety advice.

The team will take follow up action on the issues identified, helping to work towards a safer and cleaner Tameside.

Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods Cllr Laura Boyle: “The recent ‘Our Street Day of Action’ was a great success in addressing areas of concern and issuing 11 Fixed Penalty Notice for flytipping offenders. Flytipping is an inexcusable offence, and it is vital consequences are given to those at fault.

“It was great to see local schools and residents getting involved helping to foster and encourage cleaner and safer towns. Thank you to all teams and those who took part.”
