New Team Supporting People to Live Well in Tameside

Date Released - 11/07/2025

A new team dedicated to keeping people living well in the place they call home has already connected over 2,000 Tameside residents to support.

Tameside’s Early Support and Advice Hub (ESAH) launched in February 2025 and are part of Tameside Council’s Adult Services, providing a response to new referrals. They triage urgent and non-urgent work, helping people navigate care and support by working with their strengths, enabling them to provide personalised advice.

They explore if local support in their communities, a direct payment or if other shorter-term support would benefit someone.

Alex, 68, from Dukinfield has accessed help from ESAH and now feels much more confident at home in supported living.

Alex’s support began with the team helping him to move into a new flat, a place where extra support is on hand if he needs it. Alongside this, Tameside Adults Services Reablement team helped him to gain confidence and skills with things like cooking and doing his own laundry.

This period of support was incredibly successful and will continue with a direct payment. This means a personal assistant (PA) will join Alex a few times a week to help him with things like shopping, cooking or even just going out for a coffee. Now his confidence has grown, Alex will also be supported by his PA to get involved in groups and activities that are local to him.

Executive Member for Adult Social Care Cllr John Taylor said: ‘’Independence, choice and control is at the heart of the hub so people can live the life they want. It’s amazing to see the difference they are making to people’s lives already, and Alex’s story is only one of many.

‘’Thank you to the team, it’s incredible to see how you’ve changed his life. I know there is, and will be, many more stories just like his.’’

The team are available 7 days a week from 7:30am to 7pm, including bank holidays.

People who are reaching out for social care support for the first time still need to get in touch via The Community Gateway on 0161 922 4888 (Option 1). This will connect people with the right service, opening hours for the gateway can be found at https://www.tameside.gov.uk/adults/contact-us
