RESIDENTS who use a postal vote are being contacted to renew their application.
New Government rules mean that postal votes now expire after three years and anyone who has held their postal vote since before 31 October 2023 will need to renew their application by 31 January 2026.
Tameside Council is contacting affected residents who currently have a postal vote by email - or letter where there is no email address - to ask them to reapply. The quickest and easiest way to apply for your postal vote renewal is online here: Apply for a postal vote - GOV.UK You can also access the Government Website online at any library.
Tameside Council Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer Harry Catherall said: “We have started this process now to give electors the best opportunity to apply before the deadline and we welcome applications at the earliest opportunity. You don’t need to wait until we contact you - you can reapply online as soon you like.”
The council will not be asking people to provide any personal details by email in the first instance. Instead they will be asked to visit the Government website to renew their application.
Genuine communications from Tameside Council will be sent from the Government Notify Service and the sender will be Tameside Electoral Services from electoral.services.tameside@notifications.service.gov.uk. Communications will be addressed personally to the elector.
