Everyone is welcome to a free creative family activity day to mark VJ Day; with vibrant creative workshops, live performances and lots of hands-on activities.

Tameside Council’s Culture and Arts Team have arranged a VJ Family Fun Day, on Friday 15 August from 10am-4pm, to commemorate 80 years since the end of World War Two.

Residents are being invited to come along to King George V Playing Fields, Ashton (OL6 8LG) and enjoy a day filled with entertainers, interactive circus performers, family theatre, arts and sciences activities and lots more.

The Summer Theatre ‘The Hare and The Moon’ session will be taking place (11am and 2pm) and Outdoor Arts team will also be there throughout the day.

It is a family-friendly day, so there is something for all ages to enjoy.

Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “Our VJ Day event is an exciting opportunity to come together as a community and honour the importance of World War Two ending 80 years ago. The event aims to bring the community together to honour the past and celebrate togetherness and peace.

“Join us in celebrating history with a family fun-day, jam-packed with free activities and performances. It will be a great day with something for everyone to enjoy! Well done to our brilliant teams for arranging another fantastic community event to honour such an important and historic occasion.”
