Thousands of teenagers across Tameside are deciding on their next steps after collecting their GCSE results.
A world of opportunities is opening up as young people choose which path to embark on for their future careers.
With an array of options available following school, students are making the decision on whether to study at college, take on training programmes or apprenticeships, or enter the workplace.
Tameside Council, schools and colleges have worked hard to ensure that support is in place to help students get on the right post-16 pathways, including the right college course or training option.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council Executive Member for Culture and Lifelong Learning, said: “A huge well done to all of our students who have taken their GCSEs this year, working ever so hard over many months. This couldn’t have been done without the encouragement of Tameside’s teachers, parents and carers who have been there every step of the way, so a big thank you for all you have done.
“Results day can be a bittersweet time, and each young person has the support of our brilliant Tameside Careers team who provide careers advice and options, whether results went well or if they didn’t go to plan.”
GCSEs are graded using a numerical system from 9 to 1, rather than the previous A to E system, with a four needed for a ‘standard pass’ and five for a ‘strong pass’.
Following GCSE results day, career advisers from Tameside Careers team will be available at Tameside One reception from 1pm-4pm on Thursday 21, Friday 22, Tuesday 26, Thursday 28 and Friday 29 August.
Weekly drop-in sessions also take place every Wednesday between 1pm-4pm with the Tameside Futures team within the Carers’ Centre. These are for 16–18-year-olds, or up to 25 for young people with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP).
