With everything from a Pop-Up beach to outdoor arts, summer theatre and so much more, it’s been a fantastically fun packed summer of smiles in Tameside.

Thousands of residents have taken part in a vibrant summer programme of free and low-cost events and activities organised by Tameside Council’s teams designed to be accessible for everyone across the summer holidays.

With activities celebrating important historic events like VJ Day and fun days at Portland Basin Museum, to those offering hands-on craft sessions, and bringing stories to life through story walks, interactive theatre and much more there was so much on offer.

The VJ Day celebrations hosted over 1250 residents, who came along to take part in nine different engagement activities.

Amazing adventures and activities took place everywhere from the museum to local parks, libraries and Family Hubs across the borough. Portland Basin Museum had over 18,000 visitors, at their themed events, Make, Do, Play sessions and general visits.

The Pop-up Beach in Stalybridge brought the seaside vibes to town, with five days of brilliant activities, including dancing, entertainment, giant games, crafts, ice-creams and best of all a giant sand pit to build loads of sandcastles in. Nearly 2000 residents came along over the five days.

Outdoor Arts sessions invited children and their families to take part in interesting and educational craft activities in a range of Tameside’s beautiful parks and greenspaces. Meanwhile, local libraries offered an exciting mix of fun and imaginative activities for children and families indoors.

The interactive and amusing, Summer Theatre sessions brought together over 800 attendees in total, for fantastic, creative and laugh aloud performances and even the weather didn’t spoil the fun on offer!

Executive Member for Culture and Lifelong Learning, Cllr Leanne Feeley, said: “We were over the moon to see the huge take-up of events over the summer holidays. There was so much on offer for families and residents in Tameside to join in with, and it was fabulous to see so many make the most of the activities and really enjoy themselves. As always, our teams did an incredible job at hosting unique and creative activities.”
