Public views being invited to help create the vision for Denton town centre

Residents and businesses are being invited to help shape plans for public spaces in Denton as part of wider improvements for the town centre.

The consultation will cover shared spaces in the town centre and Victoria Park, which could benefit from significant improvements including improved pedestrian and cycling routes, and cycle parking.

The plans will use the ring-fenced £16.7m in Levelling Up Funding granted to help transform the town based on the original round two bid submission to Government in July 2022.

The project team which consists of consultants Planit and Placed alongside the Council’s Strategic Growth team are continuing their fact-finding mission and talking to local businesses, stakeholders, and residents from Denton and across Tameside to find out how everyone would like to see roads and pedestrian spaces improved. Just under £3 million is also being utilised to improve the Festival Hall with costs for repairs also included for Denton Town Hall.

Initial ideas gained through fact finding have been formed into draft plans for consultation review to allow the team to gain everyone’s views on the emerging proposals to ensure they are in line with both community and key stakeholder aspirations and requirements. 

Since the successful submission of the bid and subsequent awarding of the grant, research and preparation work has been happening in the background to consider the changes to both the physical and financial landscape since then.

The projects could bring benefits to the town including consolidating public services, improving community spaces and, enhancing travel routes, and improving the appearance of the town.

To gain people’s views, stakeholders are being invited to sessions held during the week commencing 21 September. With a public drop-in session at the Create Centre in Denton (M34 2XW) on Wednesday 24 September from 12.30pm until 7pm where everyone can pop in and have a look at the draft proposals. There is also an online survey which can be completed by residents who would like to comment but are unable to make the drop-in session.
