Over 700 children took part Story Makers sessions in Tameside libraries to learn about calling 999 as part of our wider day of action to promote community safety.
The sessions were held across three libraries and online as part of Operation Avro, a multi-agency crackdown on crime and issues of concern in the local community.
Story Maker sessions are funded by Tameside Community Safety Partnership.
In the session, Simon the storyteller, used an animated book titled ‘999 Emergency’ written by Susanne T Schroder and illustrated by Andy Rowland in collaboration with Tameside families. This story was created as part of previous Story Makers sessions in the years 2023-2024.
The sessions equipped children with the knowledge to respond effectively in emergencies, including how and when to call 999, fostering greater awareness and confidence should they ever face such situations.
Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “It is fantastic to hear that these sessions reached and educated over 700 children! This was an excellent activity to equip our younger residents with such crucial information. Using storybooks is a great way to engage the children and ensure they retain the information. Well done to all the teams involved in hosting these amazing Story Maker Sessions.”
