COMMUNITIES came together at a ‘My Culture, Your Culture, Our World’ event to celebrate the different cultures and faiths in Tameside, as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

Ashton Health Group, based at Ashton Central Mosque, organised the event held on 18 October through the GM Hate Crime Community Small Grants programme, administered by Tameside Council.

This was an excellent opportunity to bring communities together and connect with one another, showing unity and respect in our community, and highlighting the Mosque as a welcoming place for all.

The event, which hosted over 200 guests, featured an amazing variety of food tasting samples, activities such as arts and crafts, and information stalls for all to enjoy from seven different cultures within Tameside.

Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team were in attendance with a stall and information relating to Hate Crime Awareness. They also showcased artwork created by community and faith groups for last year’s main project.

The event represented a shared appreciation and respect for the diverse faiths and cultures that enrich Tameside, reinforcing the message that we are all different, we are all equal, and Tameside does not tolerate hate.

Executive Member for Public Health, Community Cohesion and Equalities, Cllr Taf Sharif said: “I want to thank Tameside Health Group and Ashton Central Mosque for their leadership, and every culture that took part in this wonderful event, showcasing the amazing work that makes Tameside such a vibrant and united community.

“It was truly inspiring to see so many community groups come together to show Tameside Standing Together, especially in light of recent events. Gatherings like this remind us of the strength we find in our diversity. An opportunity to connect, to learn from one another, and to celebrate the shared values that bind us together.

“Events like this shine a light on the respect, understanding, and shared humanity that define who we are; one community, many cultures, standing together as one Tameside.”
