Remembrance services in Tameside 2025

REMEMBRANCE services details have been announced for towns in Tameside, to honour those who lost their lives in the two world wars.

Over the weekend of the 8 and 9 of November, communities are invited to join the services and share commemorations. Services will also be held on the 11 of November at Dukinfield Town Hall, Stalybridge and Hyde, Godley.

Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Shibley Alam said: “It is with the greatest honour that we commemorate and pay our respects to those who bravely sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. This year holds special significance, marking 80 years since the end of the Second World War. Lest we forget.”

Saturday 8 November:

Audenshaw, Ryecroft Hall – Saturday 8 November – Wreath laying ceremony at 10.30am at the memorial stone in the grounds of Ryecroft Hall.

Audenshaw, Memorial Gardens – Short Service and wreath laying ceremony at 12pm

Droylsden, Littlemoss – Saturday 8 November – Service of remembrance in the memorial garden, Lumb Lane, at 2:30pm

Sunday 9 November:

Ashton-under-Lyne, Central – Sunday 9 November - Parade assembles on Market Street 9am and proceeds to Ashton Parish Church for a remembrance service at 9.45am. Afterwards the parade will reassemble on Stamford Street and proceeds to Ashton War Memorial via the BT roundabout and Mossley Road for a wreath laying ceremony at 10:45am.

Ashton-under-Lyne, Cockbrook - Service in St Gabriel’s Church, Audley Street, at 9:30am followed by a wreath laying ceremony at 11.00am at the Stamford Square war memorial.

Ashton-under-Lyne, Hurst - Service in St John’s Church at 9.30am followed by a procession via Kings Road to the war memorial in Hurst Cemetery for a wreath laying ceremony and planting of personal poppies at 11am.

Ashton-under-Lyne, Park Bridge - Service of remembrance at the war memorial in the grounds of Park Bridge Institute at 10.45am.

Ashton-under-Lyne, Waterloo - Parade assembles at Cannon Burrows Primary School, Oldham Road, at 2:15pm and proceeds to the Oldham Road war memorial for a service of remembrance at 2.30pm.

Audenshaw, Cemetery - Service of remembrance and wreath laying at the war memorial in Audenshaw Cemetery at 3pm.

Denton - Sunday 9 November

Central - Parade assembles at 10am outside Denton West End Working Men’s Club, Grosvenor Street, and leaves at 10:20am to the remembrance garden where a wreath will be laid. Parade continues to Denton Town Hall. At 10:45am, the parade will proceed along to the war memorial in Victoria Park for a service of remembrance at 10:55am.

Haughton Green - A service of remembrance will be held in St Mary’s Church, starting at 10:30am, followed by a short wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial on the south side of the church.

Denton West - Wreath laying ceremony to be held at the memorial in Thornley Park at 1:30pm.

Droylsden, Central - Sunday 9 November - Parade assembles on Church Street and departs at 10am proceeding to Droylsden War Memorial for a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony at 10.45am. 

Dukinfield, Central – Sunday 9 November – Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at 3pm at the Chapel Hill war memorial.

Hyde, Werneth Low – Sunday 9 November – Procession will assemble at Lower Higham Visitor Centre, Higham Lane, leaving for the Werneth Low war memorial at 11:45am. A short service of remembrance and wreath laying ceremony will be held at 12pm.

Hyde, Central - Parade assembles on Greenfield Street at 2pm for departure at 2:10pm proceeding in a loop to arrive back at the town hall for a remembrance service at 2:30pm. This will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at approximately 2.45pm.

Newton - Rosemount Methodist Church. Parade leaves Rosemount Methodist Church, Bennett Street, at 9:45am and proceeds to the war memorial outside the George and Dragon, Bennett Street, for a short service of remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at 10am.

Newton - St Mary’s Church. Service held in St Mary’s Church, Bower Street off Talbot Road at 10am. The parade will then travel to the Little Soldier at the junction of Cartwright Street and Victoria Street where a wreath laying ceremony will be held at 11:45am.

Longdendale

Broadbottom - Parade assembles at Broadbottom Community Centre, Lower Market Street, at 10:30am and proceeds to the war memorial via Market Street and Mottram Road. An act of remembrance will be held at the war memorial at 10.45am.

Hollingworth - Remembrance service at St Mary’s Church, Market Street, at 10am. Followed by a walk along the pavement to the war memorial, Mottram Moor, for a wreath laying ceremony at 10:50am and rededication. 

Mottram - A service of remembrance will be held in Mottram Parish Church at 10.30pm.                                                                                                 

Mossley, Central - Service of remembrance and wreath laying ceremony to start at 10:45am at the war memorial in Mossley Park.

Stalybridge, Central – Sunday 9 November – Parade will assemble in Armentieres Square at 10:15am and will proceed at 10:30am to Stalybridge War Memorial for a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony at 10:55am. At the conclusion of the parade for all those taking part, light refreshments will be available inside The Lock - Castle Street, Stalybridge, SK15 1NX.

 

Tuesday 11 November:

Dukinfield Town Hall Steps – Tuesday 11 November – National act of remembrance to be held outside Dukinfield Town Hall. The ceremony will include a two-minute silence at 11am.

Hyde, Godley – Tuesday 11 November – Service of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony to be held at the war memorial on Godley Hill Road at 10:50am. 

Stalybridge, Millbrook – Tuesday 11 November - Service of remembrance to be held at St James’s Church, Millbrook at 10:50am.
