New homes coming to former Denton Baths site

Date Released - 04/11/2025

Tameside Council has sold the brownfield land, which was formerly, Denton Baths on Victoria Street to bring forward affordable homes to improve the area and support local people.

The site will now be developed to build new affordable homes. The scheme will provide important homes to improve the area and support the local people of Denton.

The land has been bought by Collaborate Living Ltd, working with Irwell Valley Homes. Together, they will build thirty-five rental apartments in a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes, for people in need of housing in Tameside. Planning approval was granted in October 2024.

The new development will provide modern living apartments to include:

Denton Baths closed in 2020 after the Tameside Wellness Centre opened offering an enhanced leisure facility in the town.  The new plans were shaped by feedback from local residents and aim to fit well with the community.

Councillor Andrew McLaren, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Growth, Housing and Homelessness, said: "This is an important step in making better use of unused land. These new homes will help local people and improve the area, while keeping its character and history. The new plans were shaped by feedback from local residents and aim to fit well with the community.”

Sasha Deepwell, Chief Executive of Irwell Valley Homes, said: “We are excited to reach this milestone in the transformation of the former Denton Baths site – turning disused land into quality homes available at affordable rents.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone from the local community who helped to shape the plans – ensuring we’re meeting the urgent need for new housing, whilst respecting and celebrating the heritage of the area.

“We know the impact a safe and secure home has on someone’s quality of life and we’re looking forward to helping people into a home which meets their needs and supports them to thrive.”

Lee Robinson, Managing Director of Collaborate Group, said: “We are really pleased to have completed on the site purchase with Tameside Council and to be working in partnership with Irwell Valley Homes and GK Construction to deliver thirty-five new affordable homes in Tameside.”
