Mayor launches new Litter Hub in partnership with Tameside College

Date Released - 21/11/2025

A new Litter Hub has been launched at Tameside College to help keep the borough tidy, one street at a time.

The hub was officially opened on 13 November by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, alongside college colleagues and nearly 20 students.

Inspired by the Great British Spring Clean, Tameside College contacted the Council’s Community Safety Team for guidance and support in organising litter picks. Following two successful picks over the summer and a growing number of volunteers, including students, a permanent hub has now been established at the college.

The hub will host weekly litter picks, supporting the wider effort to keep Tameside clean and welcoming.

Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, Cllr Laura Boyle said: “We are so excited to see the launch of a new litter hub in Tameside College. This is an excellent partnership and has amazing potential to involve younger residents in bettering Tameside and fostering the importance of looking after their neighbourhoods.”

Jackie Moores, Principal and CEO of Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College said: “We are proud to play our part in keeping Tameside clean and tidy. It’s fantastic to see our students taking what they learn here and applying it beyond the classroom. We really want to encourage as many students as we can to get involved.”

Across the borough, a network of hubs provides residents with equipment such as bags, litter-pickers, and hi-vis jackets to support community clean-ups. After your litter pick, you’ll be given instructions on where to leave your filled bags (note: not at the hub). Simply return your equipment, ready for the next time you volunteer.
