Portland Basin Museum is delighted to announce free and bespoke festive activities for all ages in the run‑up to Christmas.
Residents can enjoy festive craft activities, a maker’s market, and a brass band with a seasonal twist.
On Saturday 6 December 11am-3pm, there will be a day of free children’s craft activities, including make your own elf hat and mini elf decoration.
Little Owl Artisan are hosting a Christmas craft market on Sunday 7 December 10.30am-3pm. There will be a wide range of unique gifts and treats, perfect for Christmas gifts. In addition, there will be a festive brass band music from St John’s Band Droylsden at 12.30pm-2pm.
The Tameside Council run museum has a gift shop full of retro and heritage inspired gifts and toys that would be perfect for stocking fillers and Christmas gifts. There is a brand-new range of confectionery items inspired by the old-fashioned grocery store on the museum’s 1920s street, perfect for gifting in food hampers.
On Sunday, 30 November, the museum is taking part in with Museum Shop Sunday, which is an international celebration of cultural retail, encouraging people to shop with purpose and support arts, heritage, and cultural attractions. The museum shop is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am-4pm.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Feeley said: “We are delighted to be hosting free festive activities for residents this Winter. Portland Basin is a wonderful space, and we encourage everyone to come along, enjoy the celebrations, and support our local businesses.”
