Extra funding to help Tameside residents stay in their homes

Date Released - 12/12/2025

Tameside Council has received an extra £224,711 from the government, bringing the total Homelessness Prevention Grant for 2025/26 to £1.77 million. This money will help give more support to local people who are at risk of losing their homes.

More than a third of households in private rented housing need help as they face the end of a private rental agreement.

The Council wants to step in early to prevent homelessness before it happens. The grant will help expand practical schemes and support that keep families in their private rented homes and provide tailored advice and assistance where and when it’s needed for those facing difficult times. The council’s priority is to make sure people get help early, so they can stay in their communities and avoid the stress and disruption of homelessness.

Councillor Andrew McLaren, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Growth, Housing and Homelessness, said: "A safe and secure home is vital for every Tameside family. This extra funding means we can do even more to prevent homelessness before it happens and help local people stay in their homes to keep our communities strong."
