Residents invited to learn about Household Support Fund

Date Released - 23/12/2025

Tameside residents are being encouraged to attend a Household Support Fund information session in the new year, offering practical help for people struggling with the rising cost of living.

The event, held by Tameside Council’s Household Support Fund team, will take place on Wednesday 8 January, from 1pm to 3pm, at New Life Church, Hall Street, Ashton (OL6 6SD), and is open to anyone who wants to find out more about the support available this winter.

The Household Support Fund, which is UK Government funded, provides a one‑off grant to help low‑income households with essential food and energy costs. The scheme aims to ease the additional pressure that winter often brings and reduce the need for residents to turn to emergency food support.

Visitors to the session will be able to speak directly with council staff about the fund, understand eligibility criteria, and get guidance on how to apply.

Wave 2 of the Household Support Fund is open for applications until 31 March 2026, and residents who received a payment in Wave 1 may apply again, subject to eligibility.

Cllr Tafheen Sharif, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Public Health, said: “We know this time of year can be incredibly difficult for many people, especially when financial pressures increase. The Household Support Fund is there to offer vital support for those who need it most, and I would encourage anyone who is struggling to come along, find out more and speak to our team. You don’t have to face these challenges alone, we are here to help and are getting out into local communities to help people who most need this support.”

The session forms part of the council’s wider work to support residents through the winter months and ensure help is reaching those who may be feeling the strain.
