Communities across the borough are set to benefit from a £1.5 million investment to improve local pride and community spaces by March 2027.
Tameside has been selected for the national Pride in Place Impact Fund, which identifies areas most in need using indicators of deprivation and community need. The funding, allocated across 2025/26 and 2026/27 will focus on three types of improvements such as:
This fund is separate from, but complements, the existing £20 million, 10‑year Pride in Place programme already supporting Ashton and Hattersley. This new investment will provide opportunities for investment across all parts of the Borough.
Proposals for investment will be developed based on evidenced need, responsive to community priorities raised through Cabinet in the Community events, where residents highlighted the need for cleaner and safer streets, better parks, improved high streets and more welcoming community facilities.
With funding available in 2025/26, several early projects have already been identified for delivery this year. The following projects are subject to approval at Executive Cabinet on Wednesday 28th and include:
Further proposals will be considered for investment and delivery in 2026/27. All proposals will be assessed and final investment decisions made by Executive Cabinet.
Cllr Eleanor Wills, Leader of Tameside Council, said: “This investment means more communities can see real, visible improvements that matter to local people. Residents have told us they want cleaner, safer streets, better parks and high streets they can feel proud of, and this funding helps us deliver exactly that. It’s an important step in making every town and community across Tameside a place people feel proud of.”
