Residents are invited to take part in events and activities across Tameside as part of Hate Crime Awareness Week (2 February - 9 February 2026).
Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team have collaborated with local community groups and organisations to offer sessions and activities where anyone can come to show support, join in and help raise awareness of Hate Crime.
Groups have been allocated funding from the Greater Manchester small community grants programme to support hate crime awareness activities in the community.
The events include creative art-based sessions, accessing support services and taking part in inclusive activities that bring residents together.
Details of activities are:
A “Too Great for Hate” community drop‑in mosaic session with artist Caroline Coates. Visitors can add a piece to a community mosaic panel. Community Safety and Caroline will be present 10am–12.30pm and 12:30pm–4pm.
Stalybridge will host an awareness stand to highlight hate crime, promote shared values for the Talking Wall, and offer information on reporting and support services, with Safe Space Wellbeing Lab.
An inclusive event promoting unity and peace, delivered by Thomas Ashton School. The church choir will open at 11am, followed by an invitation to decorate a wooden Peace Dove with a personal pledge for display on a Peace Tree at the Community Centre.
An inclusive event bringing cultures and residents together, creating Too Great for Hate positive messages in batik and practical activities for families.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member Cllr Stephen Homer, who leads on Community Safety, said: “It’s great to see such fantastic activities and events for Hate Crime Awareness Week. This week helps us highlight the importance of unity and respect for each other, while also raising awareness of what qualifies as hate crimes, how to report it, and how we can support victims. Together, we can combat hate in our community.”
Tameside Council Executive Member for Population Health and Equalities, Cllr Taf Sharif said: “We really encourage residents to get involved in this week of activities and sessions to help us raise awareness of Hate Crime its profound impact on our communities. Building stronger, safer communities across Tameside is a shared responsibility, and we will not tolerate hate in our borough. We want to make Tameside a more inclusive and welcoming place for all, and these events are an important step toward that.”
