Mossley Farmers Market has won the hearts of local people since the day it launched and now it has gone even further by being named Best Small Speciality Market at the Great British Market Awards.

This is an outstanding achievement for a market that has been operating for just one year, having launched in 2025.

The monthly market, held on the last Sunday of each month, has quickly become one of Mossley’s most popular community events. Visitors enjoy an impressive range of fresh food, handmade crafts, plants, treats and friendly traders, as well as family‑friendly entertainment that makes every market day special. Attractions have included Laurel & Hardy tribute acts, interactive characters such as the Grinch, children’s entertainment including dinosaurs, and even classic car displays, helping to create a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all ages.

The Great British Market Awards are organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities, NABMA, the leading body representing and supporting markets across the UK. NABMA promotes high standards in market management, professional development for market officers, and champions the important role markets play in local communities.

The awards are judged by a panel made up of some of the most experienced market professionals in the industry, ensuring that winning markets truly demonstrate excellence, innovation, and community impact.

Cllr Stephen Homer, Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “This is fantastic news.
