Local stakeholders, businesses and organisations joined at the Think Green Tameside Climate Action Conference to discuss and shape the future for the borough’s sustainability journey.
The event, hosted by Tameside Council, brought over 100 attendees together at Victoria Market Hall, Stalybridge on Monday 9 February.
The day involved valuable networking, engaging workshops and insightful speakers, designed to share knowledge, spark collaboration and inspire real climate action across Tameside.
Workshops involved identifying emerging themes of the new climate and environment strategy, and groups explored opportunities and discussed challenges for Tameside.
Guest speakers from a range of local businesses and organisations highlighted the fantastic work they are doing to support climate action. They also discussed the support available to help businesses and organisations accelerate their sustainability journeys.
Speakers from the council expressed their appreciation for the efforts of local organisations, their teams, and the volunteers who contribute so much to this work.
There was also Q&A time for the speakers, along with space for visitors to talk about the support they need and areas of importance to them. It was a cross‑collaboration opportunity, raising awareness of the different areas we can work on together for a greener Tameside.
The conference helped build connections and set the scene for future collaboration, in order to help achieve our climate target and wider environmental aspirations. In particular, it has generated ideas and insights to feed-in to the new Climate and Environment Strategy, currently in development.
Following the conference, there will be further opportunities for businesses, partners and our residents to contribute to this process, with further details to follow.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, Councillor Laura Boyle said: “It was a pleasure to be a part of such a fantastic, productive conference. The day really highlighted our shared aims and priorities, of becoming a greener borough. It was great to see so much passion within the panel of speakers and attendees, who work hard to make the difference and support our goal of becoming Net Zero by 2038 and addressing wider environmental challenges facing the district.
“Thank you to everyone who attended, including all the local businesses and community organisations who are leading the way in thinking green to support the environment and helping to inspire others.”
